MiKayla and Nick matched on Bumble, a dating app where you only match if you both swipe right on each other. Once you've "matched" the girl has a specific time limit to reach out to the guy to start a conversation, otherwise the match disappears. MiKayla and Nick talked within the app for a day or two and then decided to exchange numbers and meet for a first date.

MiKayla and Nick met at Tamarack Tap Room in Woodbury for their first date. MiKayla had intentions of keeping things short, and meeting for "a drink". The "drink" turned into two glasses of wine each and four hours of conversation. MiKayla knew Nick was "the one" after leaving that date.

Nick had a trip planned to Seattle with Zach Yozamp and MiKayla had a concert in North Dakota with family. Throughout the trips, they kept in touch and shared pictures of their time away. MiKayla also called Nick for the first time on her drive back to Minnesota from North Dakota after the concert.

When Nick got back from his Seattle trip, their second date consisted of Nick making dinner for MiKayla at her house and watching the NCAA Hockey tournament. Both MiKayla and Nick had filled out personal brackets that night determining who would win the tournament (MiKayla was the winner).

Before MiKayla and Nick met each other, they both had separate trips planned to Arizona to see family around Easter. When they figured this out during their first date, they made arrangements to spend a few days together and meet some of each other's family. MiKayla met Nick's brother Alex and nephew Clayton for the first time and Nick met MiKayla's mom Cheryl, her dad Mark, and brother Austin. MiKayla and Nick went to a Coyotes game, drove to Sedona with family, and explored the botanical gardens in Tempe.

MiKayla and Nick went to Wisconsin for one of Nick's college friend's weddings and MiKayla met more of Nick's friends and family on that trip.

MiKayla and Nick spent MiKayla's birthday in their favorite place, Duluth, MN. MiKayla met more of Nick's friends on that trip and they explored Canal Park and watched the sunrise on Park Point.

Nick flew to Bismarck with MiKayla and spent his birthday at a concert at the North Dakota State Fair--MiKayla had bought two tickets for the concert before they met, hoping she would find someone to go with. This was Nick's first trip to Bismarck.

Nick invited MiKayla and her brother to Denmark for the 2022 IIHF Womens World Championship. MiKayla & Austin flew to Denmark and spent a week exploring Herning, Copenhagen, Hvide Sande, and the surrounding coastal towns in between hockey games with other USA Hockey family and friends.

Nick had to decide if he was going to renew his lease on his apartment 1 week after he met MiKayla. Nick's 9 month lease renewal turned into a very expensive storage unit for his things and many months of Nick spending the weekdays (when he wasn't traveling for work) at MiKayla's and MiKayla spending the weekends at Nick's apartment in downtown St. Paul. Nick eventually found a sub-leaser for his apartment and moved in with MiKayla in Woodbury, MN.

MiKayla flew to Toronto to take in the 2023 IIHF Womens World Championship with Nick, where the Women's National team took home the Gold medal! MiKayla and Nick explored downtown Toronto, took in a Bluejays game with friends, and visited the Hockey Hall of Fame with USA Hockey friends/family. Nick's mom and Jason joined them towards the end of the trip as well.

MiKayla and Nick had planned a trip to Phoenix to visit MiKayla's brother and see Morgan Wallen at Chase Field. Nick had been working on a custom ring and had secretly planned the entire proposal to happen on this trip, without MiKayla knowing. The day of the concert, they woke up early for a "hike" at Papago Park because MiKayla's brother had been raving about the views. MiKayla had no idea that he was in on the plan. On the way to Papago Park (keep in mind time was of the essence) they found themselves driving through an active crime scene, and almost did not make the sunrise. Thankfully, all went off without a hitch and the perfect picture was snapped as MiKayla said YES!
